Getting started, sessions and coverage

How do I get started?

Use the booking button to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. This time will help me learn more about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to get out of it, and give you a chance to ask any questions you may have. We will also talk about what therapy would look like and next steps to follow.

Do you offer sessions in person or online?

I am currently available to provide psychological services remotely via secure video call. Clients can be in Ontario, Quebec or Nova Scotia and sessions take place from your home or another private space. Many people searching for a psychologist or therapist in Toronto and across Ontario find that online sessions offer the same quality of care, without the commute.

Are services covered by OHIP?

No, psychological services are not covered by OHIP. However, many private insurance plans provide full or partial coverage for psychological services. Please contact your insurance provider to determine your level of coverage.

Can I use my extended health benefits to pay for therapy sessions?

Most extended health benefits plans cover in part or in full therapy sessions with regulated psychologists or psychological associates registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO). Please connect with your insurance provider to determine your level of coverage.

Do I need a referral from my physician to get started?

No, a referral is not needed. You can contact me directly if you believe you or your child could benefit from therapy.

Adults

Online adult therapy, ages 18+

Is Online Psychotherapy Effective for Adults?

Yes, online therapy is well-supported as an effective option for adults, and for many people it removes real barriers: no commute, more flexibility around work and family schedules, and the ability to have sessions from a space where you already feel at ease.

How do I know if I need therapy, or if I should just try to manage things on my own?

There's no single sign that means you “need” therapy. Some people attend therapy when their daily functioning is significantly impaired, while others benefit from therapy when they want to better understand themselves, improve their relationships or their overall well-being, or are simply curious what a therapeutic process could look like. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.

What if I'm not sure what I want to work on?

That's a common starting point, and it's okay.

Part of our work together will be to figure that out. I will support you with more guidance, if that's something that can be helpful.

What happens in the free consultation?

We will have about 15 minutes to discuss your main concerns or reason to come to therapy, and what your goals for psychotherapy are. I will also share my approach, so that we end the conversation knowing if we are the right fit to work together and, if so, what the next steps are.

Do you provide ADHD/executive functioning coaching?

Yes, if you are looking to participate in coaching sessions to better understand your ADHD and target your executive functioning, this is a good place to start.

Parents

Online parent counselling

Is online therapy suited for parents?

Yes, online therapy is a well-supported and often especially practical option for parents, who are frequently juggling childcare, work, and little spare time.

Sessions from home mean one less thing to coordinate around.

Do you work with parents of children of any age?

Yes, I support parents at every stage, from the early newborn years through adolescence and into adulthood. Parenting challenges look different at each stage, but they're all valid reasons to seek support.

Is this the same as the parent consultations offered alongside my child's therapy?

No, parent consultations that accompany a child's therapy are focused specifically on supporting that treatment.

This is separate: therapy for you, as a parent, whether or not your child is also in therapy.

Can we work on my relationship with my adult child?

Yes, parenting doesn't end when your child turns 18. Many parents come to therapy to navigate changing dynamics with adult children, whether that's setting healthier boundaries, repairing a strained relationship, or adjusting to a more independent role.

Teens

Online teen therapy, ages 13–17

What age range do you work with for teen therapy?

The age range goes from 13 to 17.

Is online psychotherapy effective for teens?

Yes, online therapy is often especially well-suited to teens, who are typically comfortable with virtual communication and may feel more at ease speaking from a familiar space than an unfamiliar office. They can also benefit from not adding travel time to their busy schedules.

Overall, research supports virtual therapy as an effective option for teens when sessions are tailored to their needs.

Will you tell me what my teen says in session?

Confidentiality is central to effective teen therapy as it is what allows teens to speak honestly. I generally don't share session details directly, though I will always let you know if there's a safety concern. Beyond that, I encourage (but don't require) my teen clients to loop parents in on their own progress and goals and we include parents as needed and when agreed upon.

My teen doesn't want to go to therapy. What should I do?

It's common for teens to feel hesitant, especially if therapy feels like something being “done to them” rather than chosen.

A free consultation can be a low-pressure way for your teen to ask questions and get a feel for whether this is a good fit, without any commitment.

Children

Online child therapy, ages 9+

What age range do you work with?

I currently work with children aged 9 and older, as this age is generally well-suited to the online therapy format. If you have a younger child, we can work on parent sessions to help improve their symptoms.

Do you work with parents?

You know your child best, and you're an essential part of this process.

Alongside your child's sessions, I offer regular parent consultations so we can discuss progress, answer questions, and build practical strategies you can use at home — keeping you informed and involved throughout.

Is online therapy effective for children?

Research shows virtual therapy can be highly effective for school-aged children when sessions are adapted to their age and individual needs.

Many children also feel more relaxed opening up in a familiar environment, which can make sessions more productive than an unfamiliar office setting.

Moreover, some children benefit from not having to travel, especially if they have busy schedules.

What if my child doesn't want to talk or feels nervous about therapy?

It's completely normal for kids to feel unsure at first.

Sessions are paced to your child's comfort level, and we build trust gradually through activities and conversation. When they're not yet old enough for direct online therapy, I offer parent consultation sessions to support you in helping your child improve their functioning across life domains.

Still have a question?

I'd be happy to answer it. Book a free 15-minute consultation over email and we will go over it together.
